The National Day of Unplugging begins today at sundown. This challenge, to turn off our computers, phones, pads & yes, even our lights and tvs, was initiated by Reboot, an organization that challenges Jews & people of all faiths to unplug and reconnect in a technology free way for just one day.
The 10 Principles presented are concepts we can all get behind, pagan or Jewish, Catholic or Buddhist. Faith doesn’t matter, what matters is that for one day, 24 hours, we at least try to do the small things that will help us touch the earth, our loved ones and ourselves.
- Avoid technology.
- Connect with loved ones.
- Nurture your health.
- Get outside.
- Avoid commerce.
- Light candles.
- Drink wine.
- Eat bread.
- Find silence.
- Give back.
Celestially speaking, it’s the perfect night to unplug. Even the moon has unplugged and is rebooting for a new cycle!
I often hear, and I’m guilty of saying, “If I had the time, I would…” What we all fail to see is that we need to make the time and thinking about it I realized that our modern conveniences are what is sapping us (well, me at least) of time. Without these things, without a tv to distract my attention, without a phone to answer or a net to surf, I think I’ll be surprised at how much time I have.
Can I do it? Can you do it?

This should happen more than once a year. Maybe once a week?
Thanks for the reminder to reconnect….

Reply: It was such a good idea, but sadly I didn’t make it the full 24 hours. I’ll have to try & try again lol
I think we need a heck of a lot more of this then just one day per year. I think we should do this two days per week. That would be an incredible boost to our well being and our family’s as well.
