Before we moved, I was poking through books and around the internet for a house blessing ritual. Most were actually banishings, dealing with dispersing negativity, which wasn’t exactly what I was looking for. I had been thinking more along the lines of a consecration type of blessing, to bring in the things I wanted in our new home and make it our own. Eventually I gave up my search and came up with a blessing of my own that utilizes the four elements and a beautiful Celtic blessing that I found on Ozark Pagan Mama
I associated each of the things I wanted to bring into our home with one of the four elements and tossed in a space clearing bell (commonly used in Feng Shui) for good measure then set about attempting to create couplets. Again, I am no poet and I like things simple. Of course you can dress it up any way you like and it doesn’t have to be used only for new homes, a home can be cleansed and blessed at any time.
Needs
- Bell
- Incense
- Water
- Candle
- Earth (aka dirt)
- matches
- 2 bowls
Steps
Standing in the center of the home, focus on the task at hand and center yourself, then gently ring the bell. See the sound waves emanating from where you stand to fill each and every corner of the room. Take up the incense, light it and walk to most eastern point of the home. Pass the smoking incense through the air, say:
“Air be filled with scented smoke
that all inside may laugh and joke“
Walking backward, bring the incense back to center and place it in the direction of east. Take up the candle and while lighting it make your way to the home’s most southern point. Holding it as high as the noon day sun, say”
“Fire kindled, flame burn bright
fill this home with love and light“
Backing up, leave the candle burning in the center, placed toward the south. Cup the bowl of water in both hands, go to the western point, say”
“Water calm and crystal clear
pray intuition we may hear“
Back toward the center and leave the bowl in the center’s western direction. Firmly grasping the bowl of earth, approach the home’s northern point, bend to the floor, say:
“In earth we’re rooted, strong, secure
grow in this home all that’s pure“
Backing to the center, place the bowl of earth toward north and stand in the center of the elements. Ring the bell again and see its sound waves carry the energies of the elements to the far corners of the home.
“May this house be founded on the goodness of Mother Earth.
May the walls of this house be blessed by the four winds of the heavens.
May the roof of this house be guarded by the heights of the stars above.
So that all who live in this house, all who seek shelter in this house,
All who strive, protected by this house, find hope and strength to live,
Find love and joy to give, find faith and meaning in their destiny.”
Ring the bell, once firmly to end the rite then clear up and dispose of tools properly.
Why you’re walking backward from each direction…so you don’t turn your back on the energies you just invited but instead draw them from their own direction toward the center of the home.

I really like this. It sounds like something you could use even if you have been in your house for awhile. Going to give it a try.
Reply: Great! Thank you, I’m glad you liked it and I hope it works well for you.
